Change is in the wind. The list is long, the new police station, the ArtSpace project in the Warren building, the Washington Park improvements and on and on. For well over 20 years, the city of Michigan City struggled with the blight that was its downtown. Many plans emerged only to die without fruition. Many costly studies were conducted and yet like a boat wallowing in still waters, these plans went nowhere. How could this happen you might ask. The answer is that you can have all the plans and studies and blueprints but these are but dreams, good intentions, but dreams none the less.
It seems so simple. “Action speaks louder than words”. Mayor Meer is a man of action. He says “Let’s do it”, not let’s study it and then forget it. Let’s be clear, there is a renaissance happening in Michigan City today that is unprecedented and the man behind this renaissance is Mayor Ron Meer.
All these projects although surely beautifying to the city, have a larger purpose and effect. Mayor Meer’s vision marries economic benefits such as job creation and increased revenue through increased tourism to the enrichment and practical benefits that will surely be a boon to the citizens of Michigan City.
Mayor Meer does not just talk the talk. He walks the walk. Mayor Meer is a man of action. “We’re going to do it” is his motto. Vision without action is not progress.
Mayor Meer likes sports allusions. In his parlance, Mayor Meer can be said to be the ball carrier who breaches every obstacle, who does not stop and will not be deterred until he has crossed the goal and scored the victory. That is what taking action means.
